One Year

It's hard to believe that a year has passed without Khalda here with us. She was an amazingly gifted, compassionate, energetic, inspirational and passionate soul that has left a profound impression on all of us. Some of us feel that the world is a little dimmer without her beautiful smile to brighten our day or the sound of her voice and laughter over the phone. But just last week while I was deep in thought about Khalda and what might have been, someone I had just met leaned over and said to me, "You're a better person for having known her, aren't you?" I smiled and said, "Yes, yes I am." I hope you all feel the same way.

Khalda's name means Eternal or Immortal in Arabic. I believe that she has more than lived up to that definition by leaving a piece of herself with each of us. I believe she is watching over us from Heaven sharing in our joys and our sorrows. I believe when necessary, she sends us a sign reminding us that she is still here with us; encouraging us, smiling when we smile, laughing when we laugh and even crying when we cry. Think about that the next time you think to yourself, I wish she was here.

This year, thanks to your generous support the Khalda Logan Memorial Foundation has raised nearly $10,000 and established two scholarships in Khalda's memory.

  • The Khalda Logan Inspiration Scholarship at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU)
  • The Khalda Logan Scholar Award at New York University (NYU)

Over the next few weeks, we will be launching our "Share A Story" feature where we encourage everyone to continue to keep Khalda's memory alive by sharing a story, a thought, a prayer with the rest of her family and friends here. We have been touched and moved by the thoughts and prayers left in her Guestbook. We hope you will be as well.

On behalf of Khalda's family and the Foundation, I'd like to thank everyone for your kind words, prayers and continued support.

Sincerely,
Michael Eaton
